"News & Updates"

  • The Scale Section held several successful social events in 2008 including the annual dinner, a barge trip from Maldon, the BBQ at the section's Lake and the Xmas buffet.

  • Paul Freshney won the "Best in Show" award for his harbour defence launch model at the Chantry Open Day at Bluewater Kent 7th June 2008 .

  • At the Scale Section's Open Day on 20th July 2008 Peter Revell won the "Best on Water" award for his Envoy tug model.

  • At the MPBA National Finals at Balne Moor near Pontefract on 20th September 2008 Dave Petts received the "Best on Water" award for his Graemsay model . At the same event Robin Lee won the Kit Class with his Tsekoa II model which also won the craftsmanship cup. In addition Robin Lee was second in the Open sailing class with his Conserver model.

  • It is with great regret and deep sorrow that the news of the very sudden and unexpected death of HENRY JOHNSON on Saturday, July 11th has reached us. Henry was a very enthusiastic member of the Yacht section and will be missed by us all. Our deepest condolences and sympathy go to his partner Jean and all the family.

  • The following Brentwood members will be representing Great Britain at the World Championship powerboat meeting in Hungary next summer.

  • Peter Revill was awarded a 'Very Highly Commended' for his Envoy Armed Admiralty Tug at Ascot Model Engineers Exhibition

  • Dave Brumstead A first in Kit Class at this year's Nationals with Robin Lee gaining a second.

  • Paul Freshney had a first in the Exact Class and has recently taken up the position of Editor of the 'Model Boats' magazine.

  • The 'Coventry Trophy' for 2009 was won by Graham Bartholomew of the Chelmsford RYC.

  • The Match Race Event on August 2nd was won by Mark Dennis of the Chelmsford RYC after 66 close races.

  • The 'Icicle Trophy' on December 6th 2009 was won by a first time visitor to Brentwood. Richard Wills from West Cornwall RSC took the trophy back home with him.

  • The 'Roy Hunter' competition for 2009 was won by John Newton after 10 months of consistent sailing.

  • The Brentwood Sailing League winner for 2009 was Barry Raven with 72 points, second was John Newton 73 points and third was John Richmond 75 points. The closest results to be recorded.

  • The 'Most Improved Helmsman of the Year Trophy' was awarded for 2009 to John Newton..

  • Congratulations to our Club Secretary Derek Coleman, he was awarded the MYA Eastern District 'Worker of the Year Trophy' in recognition of the many years of dedication he has given to the club.

  • The Scale Section had yet another successful MPBA National Finals in Hull in September 2009. Paul Freshney was awarded first in the Semi-Exact class and a Gold Medal for his HDML 1384 as well as a medal for scale appearance on the water. Robin Lee was awarded first in the Kit class and a gold medal for his Conserver as well as the TSB Trophy for craftsmanship and the Mecantile Trophy for best merchantman. Dave Petts received a silver medal for his Voorpostenboot in the Semi-Exact class.
